BREAKING NEWS!!!
I’ve decided to get myself a table at Otakon 2006! For those of you not in the know, or just have better things to do with their lives, Otakon is the biggest anime convention on the east coast. Last year, over 20,000 people attended and this year’s event is expected to draw more than 25,000 nerds, geeks, and dweebs from around the country.
I attended last year and was blown away by the shear numbers and was astounded by the quality of the vendors, guest speakers, even the cosplayers. After leaving it, I made a decision that I had to get in on this. Now that my comic is no longer just a delusion nesting in my sub-conscious, I feel that I can finally hob-nob with the other, more qualified professionals in the field.
That being said, I noticed that most of the people in “The Alley” who show off their work also have a selection of fan art to sell. So, I figured that if I’m not going to be ostracized as a n00b by the other artists, I better get a collection of my own. The top one is Nami from One Piece. A freaky little show that has some of the most annoying voice acting and terrible puns, but it does have a simple yet compelling style to its character design that makes it easy for me to emulate. The bottom one, Ed from Full Metal Alchemist, was actually done by my roommate. He doesn’t draw much anymore, but I’m hoping to kick his ass into gear so that I can display his stuff at my table as well. The more the better, eh?
I have to point out the fact that these were obviously not colored in Photoshop. Both of them were hand-colored with pencils by my talented sister. Growing up, she was always the better artist. I could never stay away from my video games long enough to be bothered with crayons and such. I think that these images prove that beyond a doubt. Hopefully, I can convince her to continue working for me, because that’s what family is for: unpaid labor!
Now that I have a con to go to, I guess I’ll have to put up a con schedule. This will allow my massive fan following to keep tabs on me and stalk me at the appropriate venues. JOY!
