I was going to call this strip, “The Island of Doctor Moron”, in honor of the costume design I stole for the first panel. However, I doubt enough people actually bothered to watch the horrible Marlon Brando interpretation of the H.G. Wells title character to appreciate the subtle homage.
The sun is, indeed, brandishing a flamethrower. As I’ve stated many time before, my relationship with the sky assassin can be likened to that of a boarder guard I do my best to avoid his domain, but it is vast, and my business forces me to trespass on occasion. His toll is pain, and he collects in burnt flesh.
As if my crappy science fiction reference in the first panel didn’t get me enough “geek cred” to begin with, the Sun’s victory cry should solidify my rep as a nerd of epic proportions. Qa’pla is the Klingon word for “success” and is usually bellowed while weilding a bat’leth, or dual-edged crescent blade. Why the Sun would understand Klingon isn’t fully clear to me, but it seems appropriate. It also sounds kinda funny.
